Early September in Tatton Park Gardens

We visited Tatton Park Gardens last weekend in glorious sunshine. The gardens looked magnificent in their late summer glory. This first picture is of the Italian Garden – all formal symmetry. Impressive – but I preferred the walk-way to the walled kitchen garden. This had a mass of wildflowers on each side of the path and it looked just wonderful.

Inside the kitchen garden we found all sorts of produce. Here is a taste of some of it – apples, corn, pumpkins and onions.

Also, fantastic sunflowers.

And chives which flanked a pathway.

Outside the walled garden, there was topiary:

And a lovely rose garden with a pond and this stone lion:

And beautiful heathers in a vast array of colours:

There are several glass houses in the gardens and I liked these contrasting ones best. First the eye-aching colour of the glass house with bright red peppers, geraniums and lilies, and then the soothing glass house with just foliage and waterfalls.

Finally, back to the Italian Garden to see these jewel-like dahlias. They are gorgeous at this time of year. It takes 10 skilled gardeners and a team of over 60 garden volunteers to maintain Tatton Gardens all year round – if you haven`t been yet, I would recommend a visit.
